Collezione: Malcolm Franklin
Malcolm Franklin studied Fine Art at Wolverhampton (1990-93), specialising in sculpture, then moved to London for an MA in Site-Specific Sculpture at Wimbledon (1993-95).
After he moved to London, Franklin developed a distinctly architectural style in his stone works, but his birthplace in the Cotswolds is still echoed in agricultural and mechanical forms, especially in his carvings of wood and stone, which often include functional steel parts. It is worth noting that, unless he is employing different materials, Franklin always carves his works in one piece, so his sculptures have no joins.
In 2002 he developed his practice through the study of lithography at Oaks Editions Lithography Studio, working with the printmaker Simon Burder with whom he continues to collaborate.
For several years he was a member and Trustee of the Free Painters and Sculptors Society and from 2008 to 2018 a Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. He is currently a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.
His sculptures and prints have been shown widely in the UK and he has also taken part in many exhibitions in other countries: Bulgaria, Spain, Egypt, China, Sweden, France and Italy where he had his first solo exhibiton in Udine in 2011.
Franklin has work in many private and public collections, including the British Museum, London and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt.
At the beginning of 2018 he moved to live and work in Italy.
